Kitts Hummock Truck Haul Project

The DNREC Shoreline and Waterway Management Section has recently repaired beaches and dunes that were leveled in the coastal storm that occurred on May 12, 2008. More than 15,000 cubic yards of sand were trucked east from Pennsy Supply Inc, a division of Tilcon Delaware, in Camden-Wyoming to Kitts Hummock Beach along the Delaware Bay.

The sand was then placed onto the 1,400 linear feet of the south end of Kitts Hummock Beach and shaped to also form a dune by the Kent Conservation District. The truck haul project  started on Oct. 21, 2008 and was completed a month later. Residents of the south end of Kitts Hummock Beach expressed a sense that they were more protected against coastal storms thanks to the newly constructed beach (as shown in photo below) that separates their homes from the Delaware Bay.
