A coastal storm came ashore near the mouth of the Delaware Bay on September 11, 2009. Photos below depict the storm's effect on Delaware beaches.

 

Rehoboth Beach 9-10-09

The recently renourished beach and dunes in Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach survived
intact and prevented damage to landward infrastructure

North of Kitts Hummock Beach, dunes were breached allowing the bay waters into the marsh

Storm surge along the Delaware Bay flowed into marshes, feeding sediment to landward locations,
as shown here between Kitts Hummock and Pickering Beach

At the south end of South Bethany, the storm eroded the beach to the point that a 6-foot scarp was left in the dune

North side of Indian River Inlet

On the north side of the Indian River Inlet, erosion occurred exposing an old concrete structure.
